The Silent Scream of the Dog Fantasy iz Blagorodnoho doma: Sacrificed on the Altar of Profit

by | Dec 5, 2024

When we look at the gleaming Facebook page of Balihara Ranch and the personal Facebook account of its owner we see nothing but success – medals from dog shows, photos of dogs in perfect poses, photos of puppies in new homes abroad, enthusiastic announcements about puppies. But behind this facade lies a story that forces us to ask: what is the true cost of this “success”? Fantasy iz Blagorodnoho doma, an Entlebucher Mountain Dog, is just one of the many victims, whose life can be described in one word – suffering.

An Endless Cycle of Suffering

Fantasy was just a young dog when she became the main “tool” for puppy production at Balihara Ranch. Between the years 2015 and 2021, she was mated with the same dog, Bart from Wealth Island, an incredible 8 times. The numbers speak for themselves: a dog who should have been a beloved family member was reduced to a reproductive machine.

The Toll of Relentless Breeding on Fantasy: Let’s Look at the Numbers

Fantasy iz Blagorodnoho doma’s life was a haunting testament to the toll that relentless breeding takes on an animal. Her journey was likely one of continuous suffering, pushing her beyond any physical and emotional limits.

37 Puppies and a Life of Exhaustion: Fantasy’s existence revolved around producing litter after litter, totaling a heartbreaking 37 puppies. The interval between her first and second litters was less than six months. In her first litter, she had six puppies, and in the second, four. By the age of just under two years, she had already birthed ten puppies in two litters.
A Cycle of Unending Strain: The horror repeated between her third and fourth litters with another short respite of less than six months. In the third, Fantasy bore seven puppies, and in the fourth, only two – a clear sign of her body’s overwhelming fatigue. Yet, she still produced a total of nine puppies in this period. Fantasy’s fifth and sixth litters followed, with a mere six and a half months between them, yielding five and seven puppies respectively, summing up to twelve puppies within half a year.

Ignoring Rest and Recovery: Though most breed clubs allow only one litter per year, Fantasy’s life cycle remained brutal. For two months, she nursed her puppies, then spent another two months pregnant. When her puppies were born every six months, she only had two months to recuperate.

Pushed Beyond Limits: Despite her advancing age, Fantasy was continually bred. Her final litter came at nearly eight years old, resulting in a single puppy. By then, her body had been pushed to the maximum limit, likely failing under the strain. Her persistent breeding attempts until this last successful litter suggest a desperate attempt by the breeder to produce puppies at any cost. Fantasy’s tragic story is a glaring example of how breeding for profit can lead to unimaginable suffering and exploitation. Her life was a silent scream that demands attention and change in the breeding industry.

Shocking Beginning: First Litter at Less than 1 and a Half Years

Another shocking piece of information is that Fantasy had her first litter at less than 1 and a half years old! For such a young dog, this meant an enormous physical and psychological burden. Her body was not fully developed and ready for pregnancy and childbirth, which could have led to serious health complications for both her and the puppies.

Lack of Diversity – A Genetic Catastrophe

Breeding the same combination (Fantasy x Bart) 8 times is not only unethical towards the dog herself but also destructive to the breed. Entlebucher Sennenhund is already a breed with limited genetic diversity.

Conclusion

Fantasy cannot defend herself, she cannot speak about her pain and fear. But we can. It is our duty to be the voice of those who cannot speak and to stop the cycle of animal exploitation in the name of profit. Fantasy’s suffering was more than just physical—it left an irreversible scar on her spirit. In the next part, we delve deeper into her heartbreaking fate and the devastating consequences for the breed’s future. Stay tuned for the rest of this shocking exposé.

When the Same Pairings Are Repeated to Exhaustion: What the Numbers Reveal About Breeding at Balihara Ranch

Publicly available records through 2023 show that at Balihara Ranch, identical parental combinations were repeated as many as four, six, or even eight times, producing dozens of puppies from a single pairing. Such a degree of repetition is not standard in conventional breeding practice and raises questions about where selective breeding ends and systematic multiplication begins.

When the System Stops Protecting Dogs: The Blind Spots in the FCI System and Breed Clubs That Enable Extreme-Scale Breeding (Part II)

In the first part, we showed where the system fails in the field — in limits, inspections, and exports. This second part uncovers something even more serious: club-level exceptions, conflicts of interest, and lax oversight by the Slovak Cynological Union (SKJ), all of which have allowed kennels like Balihara Ranch to grow to a scale that today’s mechanisms can no longer effectively regulate.

When the System Stops Protecting Dogs:The Blind Spots in the FCI System and Breed Clubs That Enable Extreme-Scale Breeding (Part I)

Current rules of the FCI and breed clubs contain fundamental blind spots: no limits on litters, no meaningful welfare inspections and weak oversight of exports. These gaps create the conditions in which extreme-scale kennels can thrive. And the only way to stop them is to change the system itself — not to address individual cases, such as the Balihara Ranch kennel, only after they grow beyond what today’s club and legislative mechanisms are capable of handling.
