Number of born puppies

  • The total number of puppies bred in the Balihara Ranch kennel is 2557 puppies in 446 litters by Q3 2023.
  • Data for Q4 2023 and 2024 are missing. Currently, the number of puppies raised has already exceeded 2600.
  • The data are only for produced Swiss Mountain Dogs. The owner of Balihara Ranch kennel also breeds other breeds, e.g. Norfolk terriers.
  • According to data for 10 years from 2013 to 2022, Balihara Ranch kennel bred 1138 puppies in 218 litters.
  • The kennel produces an incredible amount – more than 100 puppies per year. The highest number was in 2011 – 158 puppies from 23 litters. In 2022 there were 132 in 24 litters.
  • As female dogs tend to bond during heat, litters are often born around the same time, so it is a common rule that the kennel has 30 or more puppies in the yard in one period.
  • It can easily be read from the published data that from January 2021 to March 2021, the kennel had 56 puppies born in one period. In 2010, there were even 75 puppies. If we count all the dogs in the yard in 2010, regardless of age, whether it is a puppy or an adult dog, during this period there were 136 dogs.
  • The kennel does not publish data about all its litters and puppies on the website. There are only a few of them.
  • It is unrealistic for puppies in such conditions to receive the adequate care they need.
  • Ethical breeders keep puppies in the house to keep them under control. Can anyone imagine this kennel having dozens of puppies in their living room?
  • Imagine that often, with higher numbers of puppies in a litter, the female dog does not have enough milk and the puppies have to be fed several times a day.
  • A big problem with such numbers of puppies is their proper and adequate socialization and education. From an early age, puppies need to get used to different environments, situations, places, sounds, meet different people and dogs while maintaining their health and safety. Getting used to traveling by car or visiting the vet is important.
  • With such a number, the breeder cannot teach the puppies to walk on a leash, at least basic commands, or rid them of unwanted behavior or socialize them.
  • Puppies live in a pack, which is their main social environment. They are not used to humans and do not take them as an authority. Missed educational and socialization procedures can be very difficult to catch up with at the older age of the dog.
  • Another side is the service of the kennel and the relationship with the new puppy owners. It is unrealistic that the kennel would verify the suitability of the owners and maintain regular contact with them. On the contrary, based on the received information, it is difficult to contact the breeder when requesting advice and support.
