BORN TO SUFFER: Kataleya from Balihara Ranch’s Life of Slavery – Forced to Give Birth Again and Again

by | Feb 6, 2025

In our ongoing investigations into the practices at Balihara Ranch, we have consistently uncovered a series of shocking revelations. The case of Kataleya from Balihara Ranch, an Appenzeller Mountain Dog, is no exception. It serves as yet another appalling example of the unsavory tactics employed by this kennel in their breeding program.

Each new fact we discovered about the treatment of dogs at Balihara Ranch left us more and more disturbed. It is a grim reminder of the exploitation and cruelty that can occur when profit is prioritized over the well-being of the animals.

Join us as we delve deeper into the heartbreaking story of Katalea, and expose the truth behind the practices at Balihara Ranch.

How Far Can Greed Go? The Story of an Appenzeller Whose Body Was Exploited to the Limit

Imagine being born into a world where there is no love, only duty. Where you are not a living being, but a product. Where your body is not your own—it belongs to someone else.

This is not a story from a dystopian novel. This looks to be the reality at Balihara Ranch.

This is the story of Kataleya from Balihara Ranch, an Appenzeller Mountain Dog, born beautiful and healthy. But her life was not about joy—it was about slavery.

  • 8 litters
  • 46 puppies
  • Nearly 3 years of her life spent pregnant or nursing

And then? She somehow vanished from the glossy social media profiles of the owner of Balihara Ranch.

Why? Is she still alive? Or did she become unnecessary and thus discarded? Perhaps her devastated appearance after such a life no longer fits into the polished image that the owner of Balihara Ranch wants to present on social media.

The First Litter Looks Like a Massive Fraud – An Underage Stud and a Female Too Young to Breed

The owner of Balihara Ranch often defends herself by claiming she “follows breeding regulations.” But in Kataleya’s case, this seems to be a lie from the very start.

Born on December 15, 2014, Kataleya was approved for breeding on May 29, 2016 with a note in the breeding card: ´Select a dog with a correctly carried tail´.

In the photos from the breeding test, organized by the Slovak Club of Swiss Mountain Dogs, she already looked pregnant. Was it just an optical illusion?

source: skssp.eu

That same day, on May 29, 2016, her lifelong „mate“, with whom Kataleya exclusively had puppies, Splendid Three Color Benelux, was also evaluated.

  • Splendid was born on January 13, 2015.
  • According to the breeding regulations of the Slovak Club of Swiss Mountain Dogs, male dogs can breed only after reaching 18 months of age.
  • Additionally, if a dog has met all the breeding conditions except age, it may participate in the breeding test earlier, with breeding eligibility being granted on the day it reaches the required age.
  • Splendid was officially eligible for breeding only from July 13, 2016, as noted in his breeding card.

So why did Kataleya give birth to her first litter on August 7, 2016?

This means she was bred around June 05, 2016—by a male who was not legally allowed to breed and who was younger than 17 months!!!

  • Were the rules of the Slovak Club of Swiss Mountain Dogs ignored? Or do rules simply not apply at Balihara Ranch?
  • What would happen in many other FCI breeding clubs? Immediate expulsion, breeding ban. What happened at Balihara Ranch? Nothing.

And so Kataleya’s nightmare began.

A Life of Slavery: Give Birth, Recover, Repeat. Over and Over Again

Kataleya’s first litter, 3 puppies, arrived in August 2016. After that, there was no turning back.

The fact that Katalea was mated at such a young age, just under 18 months, and that her puppies were born a week before she even turned 20 months, raises additional serious concerns.

  • March 14, 2017 – another litter of 7 puppies (7 months later).
  • May 31, 2018 – another litter of 9 puppies (after a short break mandated by the club).
  • March 28, 2019 – another 7 puppies (only 10 months later).
  • September 30, 2019 – another 5 puppies (just 6 months later).

Considering that the female dog spends at least 2 months caring for her puppies and another 2 months pregnant, Kataleya had only 2 months to recover. Two months for her body to forget the last pregnancy. Two months before she was forced to “do her duty” again.

After such large litters, we dare say that this constitutes cruelty. In just under 5 years of her life, Katalea had to endure 5 litters in this puppy factory, producing a total of 31 puppies.

Then more her litters followed:

  • October 19, 2020 – 6 puppies
  • May 21, 2021 – 4 puppies
  • June 18, 2022 – 5 puppies (the last recorded litter). By that time, Kataleya was 7.5 years old.

In total, she had 8 litters with the same male, Splendid Three Color Benelux, producing 46 puppies!!!

A System That Was Supposed to Protect Dogs – But Failed

  • Kataleya spent 16 months of her life pregnant.
  • She spent another 16 months caring for puppies.
  • Nearly 3 years of her life were sacrificed to endless reproduction.

What kind of life was this?

  • When did she ever get to just be a dog?
  • When did she get time to rest, to play, to feel human love?

Never!

And so it continues. Dogs are used up—then discarded.

Kataleya from Balihara Ranch was not the only one. This cycle at Balihara Ranch repeats itself over and over again. For example, see our posts about Entlebucher female Fantasy iz Blagorodnoho doma or Bernese Mountain Dog Voulez Vous from Balihara Ranch. And many others, which we will analyze in future posts.

Balihara Ranch: The Endless Puppy Factory

This story is not unique. It is just another chapter in the horrific history of this breeding facility.

Like many breeding females at Balihara Ranch, Kataleya was simply unlucky to have been kept by the unethical breeder.

  • Maybe it was her fate because she was the most beautiful in the litter.
  • Maybe it was because her mother was also an “excellent producer of puppies.”

By the way, Splendid Three Color Benelux is one of the most utilized studs in Slovak breeding, with:

  • 23 litters
  • 120 puppies

Please note that these numbers are only from Slovakia; he has had many litters abroad, but these are not traceable.

Genetics Ignored, Welfare Forgotten: Why This Isn’t Responsible Breeding

8x THE SAME BREEDING PAIR – A CLEAR SIGN OF A PUPPY MILL

In responsible breeding, diversity matters. Ethical breeders carefully select pairings to strengthen the gene pool, improve health, and preserve the best traits of the breed.

But at Balihara Ranch, Kataleya was bred with the same male—not twice, not three times, but EIGHT TIMES!

  • No genetic diversity
  • No responsible selection
  • Just maximizing profit at the expense of the dogs

This is far from responsible breeding. This is systematic exploitation.

Repeatedly using the same breeding pair is a classic hallmark of a puppy mill—where dogs are nothing more than tools for mass production.

At Balihara Ranch, Kataleya wasn’t a valued breeding dog. She was a machine, producing litter after litter until her body gave out.

Whenever we finish writing such stories about the dogs from Balihara Ranch, it makes us very sad. The greed of the owner of the kennel is so immense that, in pursuit of profit and benefit, she is willing to squeeze the very soul out of the female dogs.

The Slovak Club of Swiss Mountain Dogs Indirectly Confirms Our Findings: The Truth About Balihara Ranch Comes to Light

On February 14, 2025, the Slovak Club of Swiss Mountain Dogs (SKŠSP) issued a statement confirming the accuracy of its database and indirectly acknowledging concerns about an unusually high number of litters, the exploitation of regulatory loopholes, and the leniency of evaluation committees in connection with breeding practices at Balihara Ranch kennel. Following a request from the Balihara Ranch’s owner, the club restricted access to the database. This decision has further fueled public interest in breeding transparency, sparking debate over whether it was made in the interest of personal data protection.
